UPD8 Live

This page is for teachers who have been on the UPD8 live! professional development course

It's a professional development course so teachers can learn to create their own exciting activities on up-to-date science. We give you the techniques and the 'UPD8 Constructor Kit' tools, to leave a lasting legacy in the classroom. UPD8 live! is a full-on immersive experience, lasting a day, based around a 'newsroom simulation'.

Learning to write high quality contemporary science activities can help in your teaching:

"I think more clearly what I'm trying to get across." "I home in on what will engage pupils in a topic, and look at the curriculum more creatively."

The pilot UPD8 Live! Courses were highly recommended and are now running in various Regional Science Learning Centres. To find out about UPD8 Live! courses running near you, visit the Science Learning Centres website and search for UPD8 Live!

To inspire you to write new activities, we will be providing you with 'webmaps'. A webmap is an organised collection of web pages. It acts as 'potted research' on topics in the news, bring you quickly up to speed with the news, and the science behind it.

Please send any webmaps you create, to [email protected]

  1. The webmaps are designed for use with the 'NESTOR' webmap software. You can download this free from www.gate.cnrs.fr/~zeiliger/nestor.htm
  2. The webmaps have been 'zipped' up to keep the files together. You will need software to 'unzip' it. You can get this at www.winzip.com
