The last 25 years of reform

Happy Birthday to the Centre for Science Education - one half of upd8 - who celebrated 25 years yesterday. At the event, a distinguished panel, led by Professor the Lord Winston, highlighted the importance to society of keeping students engaged with science for their whole lives. They agreed on key factors: teacher enthusiasm, the potential of new technologies, and high quality practical work.
In these 25 years we have been subjected to an incredible number of reform initiatives, such as GCSE, The National Curriculum, SATS, OFSTED inspections, Schemes of Work, The National Strategy.
But can any of these claim an impact on our main priority - teaching for engagement? Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.
